Biography

Dr. Tulasi Prasad Paudel is a ruminant nutrition specialist focusing mainly on low methane emission strategies with over 27 years of progressive experience in animal science research, climate change and related policies in Nepal and abroad. He holds a PhD in Ruminant Nutrition from the Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal, where his research advanced understanding of probiotic-driven improvements in microbial protein synthesis and rumen efficiency. His technical strengths span methane mitigation, rumen microbial ecology, in vitro fermentation systems and primary rumen epithelial cell culture.

Dr. Paudel currently serves as Senior Scientist at the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), where he leads national-level programs on lowering greenhouse gas emission from agriculture, accounting carbon sequestration, low-emission feeding strategies and climate-resilient livestock systems. He has supervised numerous postgraduate researchers in environmental stresses to animals, ruminant physiology, microbiology and laboratory-based nutrition methods. His work has contributed to developing practical technologies involving probiotics, non-protein nitrogen supplementation and improved feeding systems that enhance productivity while reducing environmental footprints.

On the global stage, he was a Global Research Alliance Fellow at the New Zealand Bioeconomy Science Institute, performing fermentation pathway studies and advising on emission-reduction policies. Dr. Paudel has also been instrumental in winning significant competitive grants from organizations such as International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank to support livestock innovation in Nepal.

His research portfolio includes peer-reviewed publications on microbial protein synthesis, nutrient digestibility, heat stress mitigation, dairy feeding systems and climate-smart agriculture. Beyond research, he has contributed to national policy development as an Advisor to the National Planning Commission, supporting Nepal’s five-year agricultural strategy and methane mitigation targets.

Dr. Paudel is also affiliated with global and national scientific communities, serving as peer reviewer, thematic advisor and contributor to livestock genetic resource programs.
